Adaptation Mini #2: From Page to Screen Interviews - A Bronte Double Feature
Finally the second part of the interviews that Kendyl did at the 2012 From Page To Screen festival are out! Olivia Hetreed talks about her work on Wuthering Heights (2011), an adaptation of the Emily Bronte novel and distilling the screenplay down to the very basic relationship in the story. Moira Buffini, screenwriter for Jane Eyre (2011) talks about the baggage that comes with the original Charlotte Bronte novel and the hosts discuss its feminist implications… and the dislike the Bronte’s had for Jane Austen.

stop telling your daughters that hair-pulling and teasing is a sign that “he likes you!”
a little boy picking on a little girl doesn’t meant that he likes her, it means he’s a little shit (⊙‿⊙✿)

An extended version for the full series, with credits, bloopers, and fans!

so glad that this exists. I watched the first one so many times… don’t know if you guys noticed, but I got a little obsessive over LBD.
“Sorrow compressed my heart, and I felt I would die, and then … Well, then I woke up.”
Fuck.
How many times do you think little Amelia Pond genuinely thought she was crazy? That she had created this entirely fictional person with a crack in her wall that spoke. Little Amelia Pond, they must have thought, broken with no parents. She must be disturbed. If people keep telling you that, you start to believe it, though. She didn’t have any reason not to. But he was real. She knew he was. Everyone knew in Eleventh Hour about her raggedy doctor and odd little Amelia Pond— except she wasn’t Amelia anymore. She was Amy. Had been for… how long?
Six months. ‘Why did you say six months?’
Is it at all possible that was the moment she broke, those six months ago. Did Amelia Pond, thinking herself mad, try to stop being Amelia Pond? Did she try to kill herself? Did she just decide to stop being a person?
Something happened six months before Eleventh Hour. Something happened that turned her from Amelia into Amy Pond.

Consider that you can see less than 1% of the electromagnetic spectrum and hear less than 1% of the acoustic spectrum. As you read this, you are traveling at 220 km/sec across the galaxy. 90% of the cells in your body carry their own microbial DNA and are not “you.” The atoms in your body are 99.9999999999999999% empty space and none of them are the ones you were born with, but they all originated in the belly of a star. Human beings have 46 chromosomes, 2 less than the common potato.
The existence of the rainbow depends on the conical photoreceptors in your eyes; to animals without cones, the rainbow does not exist. So you don’t just look at a rainbow, you create it. This is pretty amazing, especially considering that all the beautiful colors you see represent less than 1% of the electromagnetic spectrum.

“So my amazing daughter, Emma, turned 5 last month, and I had been searching everywhere for new-creative inspiration for her 5yr pictures. I noticed quite a pattern of so many young girls dressing up as beautiful Disney Princesses, no matter where I looked 95% of the “ideas” were the “How to’s” of how to dress your little girl like a Disney Princess…We chose 5 women (five amazing and strong women), as it was her 5th birthday but there are thousands of unbelievable women (and girls) who have beat the odds and fought (and still fight) for their equal rights all over the world”
- Jaime Moore, Not Just a Girl
you’re doing it right.
